The Bedroom – People’s Privacy Kingdom

The bedroom is a man’s final abode, the ultimate privacy chamber for a couple, the one place on earth you’d want to be at the end of the day.  It’s that part of the house that is most luxuriously appointed.  It is the place where people spend more than a third of their lives – eight hours of sleep plus a few hours of grooming in front of the dresser, watching TV from bed, reading a novel from bed, or getting breakfast in bed.  Not to mention all the other stuff one does in bed, alone or with someone else.
The Multipurpose Bedroom
It is often said that if there’s just one place at home worth investing your money in luxury items, it’s the bedroom.  Many urbanites living in constricted dwelling spaces have most of the things they need in the bedroom, with the exception of cooking and laundry.  In fact, condominium studios and small bachelor’s pad are basically expanded bedrooms.
As the place to relax after a hard day’s work, the bedroom is home to all the “basic” luxuries to pamper the homeowner. Luxury beddings with comforters and fine linens, along with feather down pillows are de rigueur. The bedroom set won’t be complete without the usual night stand, dresser for the wife, drawers, armoires or wardrobe closets.  And if there’s no other place for it, the home entertainment system consisting of your stereo or multichannel sound system and flat panel display are in the bedroom.  The latter is great for space-challenged bedrooms.  It is also common to see a small office table or PC table in the bedroom.
Aiming for the Cozy Ambiance
It often boils down to personal taste and lifestyle, but making the bedroom as warm and cozy underpin most bedroom designs.  One often goes for the more traditional cozy colonial look with a rich display of wood grains from walls to the beds, drawers and dressers. Hardwood mahogany, beech, oak and walnut are the more common woods with cedar mostly found in drawers.  Floors are often lushly carpeted even all the way to the master bedroom baths and walk-in closets for the bigger bedrooms.
But let’s not forget that at the heart of any bedroom is the bed.  Whether single, queen or king size for couples, the bed is both an aesthetic and functional excuse to splurge on beddings and pillows that pamper a tired body.  The rest are just accessories.
