The Challenge of Small Bedrooms

Not every homeowner is blessed with a bedroom large enough to house the typical bedroom sets we’ve taken for granted.  Putting in a queen size bed could easily take up more than 60% of the bedroom floor space, especially in some low cost apartments and townhouses.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t bring the bedroom to speed.  That’s often the challenge and it’s great to know there are furniture and interior jobs that provide some creative solutions to the dwelling space problem.
Interior Treatment
Firstly, there are interior treatments that you can do to a small bedroom that create an illusion of space, the most effective of which is the use of full-size wall mirrors.  Your only need one side of the room to have full length mirrors and closet doors will do the job.  Mirrors are known to impart an illusion of doubling the room size.
Using lighter colors like pastels on walls can also add to an illusion of space. A light grey or pale blue carpeting and white corkboard ceiling is a great interior treatment for small rooms.  Using lightly shaded sheered curtains can also help as they permit light to peer through while minimizing their harshness.
Smaller Furniture
For a couple, it’s basic to have at least a queen size bed but you may need to be more discerning when choosing one.  Forget about fancy headboards or footboards that can only take up space.  Also bear in mind that not all queen size beds have the same dimensions and there are quite a lot of manufacturers that shave off an inch or two from standard dimensions to save on production cost. They are bit smaller without the consumer noticing.  But for practical purposes, unless you’re a seven-footer basketball player, these dimensional shavings won’t really matter.  And you’d be well-advised to scout around for the smallest queen size bed you can find.
Another option to consider are those sofa beds that you can deploy as full beds at night.  If you are single, this is an excellent option, though there are sofa beds that can deploy into queen sizers for couples.
Dressers also come in smaller footprints.  Some are just small tablets anchored on wall, have no legs and their mirrors are hung on the wall instead of attached on the dresser.  This can be a good option for final grooming touches while letting your bathroom hold the rest of your make-up or grooming kits.  In short, you can furnish a small bedroom in an apartment like what most single rooms in hotels have and you’d be amazed there are bedrooms sets that can do the job neatly.
